Poupart Limited is one of the UK's oldest fresh produce companies. We supply quality soft-fruit, top-fruit, stone-fruit, citrus, cherries, grapes and a host of other products to leading supermarkets and the non-reail sector.
Incorporated in 1895, but trading since the mid 19th Century, the company remained a privately owned enterprise until 1986, when it was acquired by Hillsdown Holdings plc, a major food conglomerate at the time. Within a year of that acquisition a third generation fruit trading family, the Olins, were encouraged to conduct a "management buy-in" of the business. This arrangement resulted in Poupart regaining its lost pre-eminence and returning once again to the position of financial strength it had held in past years. Although Poupart was subsequently sold by Hillsdown Holdings plc in 1997 to Argent Group Europe Ltd, the Olins family remain at the helm of the company. Thus combining the expertise and flexibility of a family led enterprise with the strength and discipline of a larger financial entity .
Divided into four product-specific marketing divisions supplying supermarkets, namely BerryWorld for soft fruit, OrchardWorld for top-fruit, Poupart Citrus for citrus and Norton Folgate for cherries. A fifth division Poupart Imports supplies a wide range of products to the non retail sector. The company is based at Head Offices in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, with trading offices in Spain and Holland.
The divisions run as autonomous profit centres and are staffed by highly skilled commercial and technical teams. Each has responsibility for ensuring that the very highest standard of quality produce , food safety and value is supplied to it's customers from a very wide grower and exporter base, both in the UK and overseas.
Although clearly able to demonstrate the stability and financial muscle of a multi-national organisation, Poupart Limited's real strength lies in the personal commitment and expertise of its directors and staff at all levels. This experience of the produce industry, from generations of involvement, is the real asset of the business and the continuity offered by the Poupart team is rarely found in modern businesses. The company takes great pride in its reputation as an ethical trader in its dealings with both clients and suppliers, whilst holding a strong set of values as a supportive, progressive employer.
