Skip2bfit aims to promote and implement quality skipping and fitness programmes in association with youth organisations into the education and voluntary sector.
In 2002, John McCormack established the unique Skip2bfit school programme in a bid to help cut rising child obesity levels. This innovative national programme was designed to educate children about fitness and healthy eating, as well as improving their maths and computer literacy by the use of its specially designed Skip2bfit ropes.
The initiative was launched in 2002 by John McCormack, once the No.2 ABA Ranked Heavyweight of Great Britain. John has used his 20 years of boxing experience to establish skipping as an easy to learn, exciting and challenging activity, which links healthy living to science and education. By using the SKIP2BFIT digital rope, visiting schools and teaching the benefits of the exercise John has already reached over 200,000 school children.
Media interest has been high – with press coverage ranging from the Times Educational Supplement to local newspapers across the country. Skip2Bfit has also been featured on Meridian TV, BBC South East a variety of radio interviews – including being the talking point on prestigious stations such a radio five live.. Top sportspeople such as such as Kelly Holmes have an active understanding of SKIP2BFIT.
Three divisions of the Poupart Group, Berryworld, OrchardWorld and Poupart Citrus, supply fruit to the children who take part in Skip2Bfit school sessions all over the country. At the end of the skipping session, the importance of eating a healthy, balanced diet is discussed with the children, and the benefits of fresh fruit and veg in particular are highlighted. Each child is given a piece of fruit to enjoy while they take part in the discussions about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Apples, clementines or blueberries are given out all year round, the latter being packaged in specially designed small child size packs. Fun fact sheets about the products are also distributed, which feature interesting fruity facts and easy recipe ideas. We also run competitions for the schoolchildren to participate in, and have our very own fruity characters who regularly attend the school assemblies for prize giving.
So far the Poupart Group have given fruit to well over 200,000 children.
